I didn't post last night because it was so late...but here are some pics from the ANE show. Now...on to rock it out at work on 3 hours of sleep...bring it on! (CED 109, and more, in progress)

![]() This might be my new favorite thing...packing up a little bag and heading out to create poolside. Perfect. My new studio space. Got to take advantage of this weather before it starts to get steamy; today I finished up CED #107 and #108. I guess I am at a turning point with these pieces. I started to really get into the textural quality of the modeling paste and having fun with the polymer clay 'sweets'...but in the last two pieces I am focusing more the texture of the paste and trying to incorporate some fiber techniques into my work, namely the beading/embellishing that I started to work with in grad school. I still have clay pieces from this weekend, I think I will save those for the monthly self-portrait. The only thing with the beading...it takes...well, it takes quite a bit more time. But...I love the process...so maybe I will just work with these for the rest of the week and then see where it goes. ![]() And tomorrow is the ANE show. This month's theme is Pop Art. I referenced Wayne Thiebaud and Claes Oldenburg in lieu of Warhol, hence my 'Sweet Thangs' series. Hopefully I will sell some work! I had intentions of packing up my art bag and loading my car with the table and chair...I guess it's still early and that could happen. Not sure what I want to work on during the show, I know that I will work on my CED for tomorrow...maybe start the self portrait? Finish up the enlarged version of CED #92? I bought a nice art portfolio to put my prints in, the ones that I will be selling, want to try that out instead of my usual basket of prints... Just like every night before an ANE show, there is so much to do. But I always manage to get it all done. One thing that has to happen- sleep. Staying up til 2am tomorrow 'artin' is going to be a beast! Especially without my business partner Jessie : ( ![]() So last night I didn't want to waste the modeling paste/black paint concoction that I created..so I quickly painted on two scraps of bristol board. I wasn't sure what would happen to these...I just didn't want to waste materials. I did try to make the scribbles look like hair...then I went to bed. Today I pulled one of these pieces out of my sketchbook and...well, it became the beginnings of CED #107. I decided to go with my Micron pen for this piece, creating my shading with stippling. Then I came home from school, and after a nap it was time to come work on this piece. So I made a quick trip to Michael's, packed up a little zebra bag and headed out to the pool to take advantage of the later sunset and the amazing weather. I knew I needed to start beading, getting back to my textiles roots. So, needle threaded, felt cut into flowing tendrils...I started to bead. Stitch by stitch, bead by bead, enjoying the rhythm of my needle going through the felt and placing each bead individually. What have I gotten myself into?! It is very tedious work...but I really love it. So...after a break to run, eat dinner and work on the yearbook...I think that's all I have in me for this evening. Will finish this piece up tomorrow, and start #108...anyway, enjoy the slideshow! Please note: I really wanted to be super cheesy (typical me, right) and put the pics below to a slideshow with 'Beat It' in the background...but my 'DJ' ('Johnny Nice'...aka, 'the husband') is working on a paper to submit to a conference...so...no music. Sigh. Here is my Sunday, in pictures... (below). Got a busy week coming up...yearbook is due...FCAT...Art Nouveau on Wednesday, important phone call on Thursday...oh my! (...and I did have captions...posted on the wrong page and couldn't transfer'em...blahhhhhh...it's 12:38...must...sleep...no captions...maybe I will add them tomorrow...) ![]() (Left) CED #105 (Right) Drawing on the judging stand Sigh. Super duper cheesy. Yep, that's me. ...so...CED #105 is all done. Trying to add in some fibers just in case...well, just in case I want to transition into using yarns, fabric or beading in the remaining pieces...not sure what direction these will go in...I am almost out of the polymer clay treats that I made at Jessie's the other weekend. Judged my last cheerleading competition down in Davie today. It has been a long season, but I love being around the cheerleading and seeing all of my judging friends. I even had time to start working on my CED #105 during breaks. Yep, there is always time to draw, glad I brought my drawing pencils and sketchbook with me. Wow...really glad it's Friday! Here is what I worked on today...CED #104...and in-progress piece for the self-portrait project...
![]() ...in the world of (teaching) art today...6th graders, finishing up the Mehndi hands...7th grade...finishing up our Pop Art Logo paintings...8th grade...sketching out their Character Counts/Graffiti designs on canvas board...5th grade...just busy being awesome. I love teaching ART! I do not, however, love the stress of FCAT. Kiddos, if you happen upon this blog, please take a deep breath...you can do it. In fact, take your FCATS, rock it out, and let's finish the year up making some amazing artwork : ) In the world of art (making)...started to enlarge my first 'sweet thang' per request Angela...worked on my piece for the Self Portrait project...and finished up my CED #103, a blue-haired lady with oreos in her hair...yummmmmm! ...good turnout for the opening reception at Old School Square...always cool to see your own work hanging up with gallery lighting and folks checking it out...and especially looking around to see all of the awesome work from my fellow art teachers, also showing in this exhibit.
Oh...and CED #102...done. Posted it before I left for the reception! ![]() I usually like to add filters to my pictures but I wanted to post the pics to the left in the actual color. So...the piece that I made last night...wow, the color really changed once it was dry. I expected to lose shine..maybe not that much. But, then again, I did buy matte...but the color? Wow, it really looks darker now that it is dry, and translucent. This is my first go at working with modeling paste, I chose it for the texture. I may revisit CED #100 at some point to try and get some of that color and shine back... As for tonight...it was another textural experiment...guess I will see what happens with the color and opacity tomorrow. One thing that I think I need to push more is integrating the texture more into the overall piece, not confining it just to the hair. But then again, I do like the emphasis that it creates to have the texture of the hair stand out so much...not sure how I will approach this in the next piece. Even though it is 'finished' the concept is still very much a work in progress. So anyway, here is CED #101; ...before I forget...I downloaded the photos I took yesterday after I first sketched out the Star Wars pieces along with the original picture that I used as the basis for the drawing. Of course, I added my own spin on each one...really loving large eyes lately.. ![]() I heart blue backgrounds. ...I started working on the backgrounds...I am not sure what approach I will take to painting these, but I figured painting the background was fairly low-commitment. Another 'wait and see'... Hmmm....maybe I will actually attempt more than five hours of sleep tonight... ![]() ...awesome day! Got observed...during which my friend Siddhi made a guest appearance to show my 6th graders her freshly done Mehndi...all the kids chilling and making art (starting 8th grade starting Graffiti painting, 7th grade finishing up Pop Art Logo painting, 5th grade starting some cool line designs)...five Star Wars images quickly sketched out on some square canvases during 'free draw' time...surprise Easter basket hanging from the door when I got home...extensive nap (might as well, I stay up late every night regardless)...a 1 mile run (hey, gotta start somewhere)...and that was before sitting down to watch some tv with the husband and work on my art for the evening. And then...time to art. So this is what I came up with (below). Went over the 5 canvases with some black acrylic, I sure do love outlines. As for the CED #100...started off with a pencil drawing because that is the way I like to begin...cut that image out, attached it to a 5x7 canvas board that I painted in my favorite blue for painting...some modeling paste for icing/hair and the polymer clay cookies I at Jessie's last Friday...add some rhinestones (of course) and...my CED 100 is complete. ![]() I think these Henna tattoos will not make it til tomorrow... ...and like that...it's past midnight and my 100th day has passed. Now, again...I made more than 100 pieces of art...sometime I guess it would be cool to actually count the works..but I set out to be creative, do make art, every day...and I am on my way to my goal. And the on-line event well well. Had many folks participating from all over. Will work on a slideshow for that tomorrow. But for now...per usual...I need to get some sleep. 5am comes way too early. So me and my boot-leg henna tatted hand are washing up for bed. Happy 100th day to me! Yay!!! |
