When I met Raliene last weekend I made arrangements to come back and switch out my coffee paintings for the news ones from last month. I love going downtown first thing in the morning on Saturdays and Sundays- parking is no problem and the streets are pretty much clear, so is the riverwalk. I feel like I have the place to myself.

John and I decided to take a ride down to Carolina Beach to check out a grill in a gas station that was supposed to be legit (OFFICIAL REPORT: It did NOT disappoint! Best hotdog everrrrrr!) Then we kept on driving down to Fort Fisher to walk around for a bit. Seems like everyone else had the same idea- everywhere was packed...except for our fav spot. She had me a pageant gowns and coffee illustrations! This was a really fun group of coffee paintings to complete, Raliene wanted paintings of some of her outfits/gowns from her pageants. I have one more to complete for her, she wasn't quite sure yet which one she wanted. Will post a pic of that once it is done and delivered. ...and how did she find me? My art display at Port City Java! ...get it? MARCHing?! As predicted, the calendar days continue to pass and what do ya know- it's a brand new month. Time for a new series! Last month I revisited my #FashionGrindJLG series from April 2020. The main reason I chose to do this was to get back in the same headspace so I could create some new coffee commissions from a gal that saw my work at Port City Java, also- the coffee smells divine, I love to drink it and ya'll know I love some fashion! For March I knew I wanted to continue with my fashion focus- but I wanted to try something different. Then it came to me...paint with wine? WINE not?! #VinoVogueJLG
I am also continuing with the additional sewing project on the side. I was originally gonna continue down the rainbow spectrum...but then I started thinking about St. Patrick's day, and also all of the green all around me as everything comes back to life and- GREEN it is! I started the same way I did for my two previous pieces, watered down acrylic paint on cross-stitching canvas. This time I also stitched a few scraps of some fabric that I hand-dyed waaaaaay back in grad school and have been hoarding 'for special'. (if you know, then you KNOW) I also added some wool and couched some nice yarn on the piece for some texture...which there will plenty of when this is done!
I can't remember which week, but I had to plan an 'extended artist date' for my Artist's Way book study. Like, get detailed- really plan it. I planned a trip for myself to go to Southport- which is about 45 minutes from Wilmington. I wasn't sure if I was going to take the ferry over or drive...but my muse from CO sent me a new mix CD (been sending them for over 20 years!) and I decided to drive so I could listen to it in it's entirety, in context. I wasn't sure when I would do it, but I wanted to just go, park the car and walk around and see things. Don't forget, the pandemic is still raging so that was part of my planning...I didn't come this far to just come this far- gotta stay safe! I tool myself out for breakfast at 7am (I only go places when they first open if I can help it so there aren't as many people) Kept my mask on while I waited for my food, worked on my morning pages but didn't get far- the food got there fast. Ate my breakfast, got an iced coffee to go and then I was on my way. This was my view as I finished up the rest of my morning pages; I love the swings by the water, probably stayed there a little too long 'cause I got some sun on my face...then it was off for my adventure. I didn't plan on talking about myself or my art but I just happened into several connections...we'll see how that plays out. Also, one of the highlights of the day was this bead sale- $1 a pack!!! I am stocked for my future beading projects! I was feeling so energized after my artist date that I just had to keep going, and the weather was on my side- almost 80 and sunny. The cat's and I hung out on the porch for about two hours til I finally had o make myself stop and go take a nap. I was only working off about 3 hours of sleep from the night before (unfortunately I am an early bird AND a night owl). But I am glad that I spent that time outside working in the natural light. |
