Folks that know me know that I LOVE animals, especially kitties! With all of the hurricane hoopla I know that the local shelters are overflowing with displaced and abandoned animals...they need homes! Thinking of adopting? Here is a very informative article that has several topics for your consideration; https://www.homeoanimal.com/blogs/blog-pet-health/81086084-the-ultimate-guide-to-pet-adoption-sneak-preview Mackie and Scooter came from an animal shelter back home in NC and having them has really enriched our lives for the past thirteen years. I hate to think of the animals sitting in the shelter wondering if they will ever have a FURever home! |
...miss you granny!
I looked through the blog archives and found this lil' gem from September 2012. That was when I first 'discovered' fashion illustration, and it really did change my world. I made over 100 fashion illustrations that first year in addition to my daily art and msc. pieces. In the years past I have continued to revisit fashion as an inspiration in my work, whether it is in a dedicated monthly theme or just additional sketches just 'cause.
Anyway, came across this entry expressing some of that early excitement...and you know what the best part is? I still feel that same way!

'Cause fashions change every year, you know?
Before I re-invent the wheel, here is my blog post/series intro from last September:
...and here is my heART from last September;
Because this year my current feeling is...
SAME.
I knew I wanted to do something with fashion illustration again, but I wasn't sure if I was going to work from one designer's collection...or what. So I started the month off with looks from my favorite show, Project Runway, because anything involving Tim Gunn (adopt me, Tim!) is ALWAYS a good choice;
Then I headed over to one of my favorite places, Barnes and Noble, to look for inspiration from a stack of fashion magazines and a big ol' iced coffee.
I heard a voice in my head whisper 'treat yo'self' ever so softly...and what's the harm in listening to a voice in your head, right?! (slight twitch and eyes go crazed) So I bought the September issue of Vogue. (and two other magazines...hey, there was a hurricane heading towards FL, don't judge) And I scurried home with my treasures.
Fun fact, I got a free vintage Vogue print bag since I bought that $10 magazine, yay! Perfect for carrying around my paper, pens and paints for this month! Ask if you go to B&N if they still have 'em!
Another fun fact- I didn't make it past the first few pages because the vintage vogue covers in the front captured my full attention! Then I started to think...what if I focused on those vintage covers, my interpretation of them anyways, for this take on being 'Drawn to Fashion'?!
So, I made this;
Well...the series just kinda developed from there. I looked to the original image as the inspiration, obviously, but then put my own spin on it. I thought it would be fun to incorporate the word 'Vogue' since that was the origin of the image, and I am trying my best to credit the photographers behind each iconic image, as well as the designers.
Here are some more of the first pieces;
...more to come!
