This is so long overdue...it's about my Wonder Woman angels that I made for a special #AngelDropART. Long story short- I invited folks to comment on a post on my FB art page to nominate a lady that they feel is WONDERful and give a comment or two to explain why. It went with my #WONDERfulWomenJLG art series from November 2017.
So anyway, that post was back in December. I started them all and then they were put on the back burner as I worked on my daily art and other projects, prepped for an Art Show and traveled back home...and dealt with the death of our little cat, Scooter- which really hit hard. After I came back from the holidays it was back to work, time for a new series...more time to grieve...and time just kept passing. And the angels just waited. But no mas. Checking this OFF that ever-expanding to-do list. In the past few weeks I have been finishing the actual painting of the angels, just anytime I had a chance. Then my next challenge was contacting everyone to get the addresses- that took a while. I decided that I would mail the angels to the folks that did the NOMINATING. I attached a little note for the nominator, sep paper(s) for them to write a personal message to the recepient(s) The nominators can choose to give them to the 'WONDERful Women' in person of via mail. And today...I mailed the angels off. I should have saved my original lists...but from what I can remember the angels will be heading out to places here in Florida, back home to North Carolina...and also California, Delaware, Massachusetts...and I even mailed one off to ENGLAND!!! But that's not all- I also mailed off packages to two folks from Project Runway All Stars- Merline and Ken. I decided a while back that I would contact the designers who created the pieces that I sketched each week, and if they wanted the art I would send it. It really made me excited last season of Project Runway to send art to Kenya, to see her reaction and to just give her a gift for being such an inspiration...so hopefully I will hear back from some of the other designers to send them the illustrations from this season.

That's it. |
Before I left I took a photo in the reflection of the (above) I know that John and Jennifer have remodeled the bathroom over the years, but the actual mirror is the same one that I looked at myself in when I was in high school- well over 20 years ago.
So much has changed, but so much is the same. Still just me, with my imperfections and all the things that make me...well, ME.
When I started doing the series this month I was thinking I would branch out into other media, but I ended up sticking with the conte crayon and watercolor for the whole month.
Some pieces have a darker feel due to my heavy handed application of the black line, some are wispy and light. Each day I approached the piece different, just like each day you make the decision to wake up and accept who you are, and to be your best self.
Some folks commented that they weren't used to seeing pictures of me without a smile. I'm weird like that. I have a quiet, introverted side that is equally as important to me as my louder, more extroverted self. I need the calm to recharge. I was an only child for nine years before my sister Morgan came along, and as a kid I learned to play by myself, drawing and coloring, reading, playing with my Barbies. I have retained the independent spirit I had as a child.
I am not always the girl who smiles. I have been through so much...much more that my grin shows. When I think about all that has happened I wonder how I came out to have a somewhat normal adult life...but it is because I chose to accept my flaws, to celebrate what is good about me, and not to be diminished by the bad things that have happened to me in my life...and there has been darkness for sure.
So...here is the series. It's just me, Jenny.
An 'Army of Me
...'cause like my girl Ani said, 'I always wanted to be commander in chief of my one woman army'.
And I am.

...here's to that little corner of the painting studio I took over that one summer...to the sketches taped to the walls, all the in-progress works...the fruit bowl painting, the self portraits, the frog diptych...and to one of my hardest professors...and one of my favorite still to this day.
I learned so much that summer.
What I wouldn't give to go back, even if just for a little bit.
Not long after I posted a pic of sketch on Instagram Ken commented on it and so now...she's on her way to him in Atlanta!
