Feelin' blue again...but kinda in a good way, as in another round of blue monochromatic BLUE artwork. The decision to do this series comes from a variety of things, some good some not so good. They makes sense in my head, might not make sense to other folks...but I will attempt to explain/give some background. Let's start with May 2012.May 2012 was my first year doing the daily art. I had just spent March and April doing some kinda labor intensive mixed media work, and it's not that I was feeling burnt out- but I wanted to just keep it simple. So that month I worked with a limited palette of blue Prismacolor pencils and markers to create my big-eyed girls. Simple- but some of my favorite faces, really had fun with each piece. (Click here to read more from a 2012 blog post.) |
What can I say- it is my favorite place on this earth. We typically go to California in the summer or over my spring break, but this year summer just didn't work out for us...and we honestly couldn't wait til the spring. John found a good deal on flights, we found a cute rental apartment two blocks from the beach on Homeaway- and we just went. Now, timing wise it was a little stressful. Just a week before I was in St. Pete for the FAEA conference and we actually left the same day as a field trip- but we did it, and I am glad that we went...I can't wait to go back! |
When folks ask, 'so what did you do?'
Man, I guess we don't do much.
But that's the best part.
The perfect PB trip just consists of walking up and down the board walk, coffee at the beach, our fav burrito spots...
And watching sunset. We never miss a sunset- even if the 'marine layer' blocks our view we still go to see what glimpse of a sunset that we can.
Days late and a dollar short- but I finally uploaded the last of my October 2018 series to my web gallery and FB album. I used to be so much better about this, but since I post my work daily either on my Instagram feed or in my stories it has made me slack off on posting the 'official' images. Oh well, at least I am keeping up with the work...and lemme tell you, it was tough to do this month with conference and traveling but I made it happen. Anyway, here are is a glimpse of the series, to see more click here! |
So yeah, all of THAT happened (and more on all of that in another post). But a timely blog post...not so much. I will do my best to make you forget by showing you tons of fun pics!! Here goes;
My first workshop- FASHION ILLUSTRATION!
What a fun time! I really enjoyed sharing my love for fashion illustration with other art teachers! Right from the start I was super nervous- I actually had a real-life former fashion illustrator in my class!! Whoa! She had a great time, made AMAZING pieces (I mean...duh!) and she also later bought some of my work!! I was blown away!
My second workshop-
RECYCLED FASHION/JEWELRY!
Look for more workshops from me at the next conference- I had so much fun!
...And I attended workshops, too!
I also had some fun in the vendor hall trying out different products and learning about resources, art programs at various colleges and even professional development opportunities!
Old and new FAEA friends...man, so much talent!
I may or may not have made a custom embellishment for a black evening gown to wear to the gala...
(Spoiler alert- I totally did!)
Oh yeah...let's just say I got my fair share of quality time with a rock star art teacher lady- this really made this my best conference EVER!
She's a sneaky one- had pocketfuls of glitter for her keynote speech. I was with her literally minutes before she went on, actin' the fool on the rolling chairs and she never let on. So I was just as surprised when she tossed the glitter in the air as everyone else. After waiting with her through picture taking we did a few silly videos and I saw the glitter on the floor. It just made me think- Cassie is like glitter. And glitter ain't for everyone, but for those that appreciate sparkle- we love it. She makes everything and everyone around her shine, and if things go well you'll find some of that sparkle after she leaves and it will keep you sparklin' a little while longer.
...so that was FAEA 2018.
I loved it! Can't wait for the next conference!!
Here's a link to last year- that was my first year participating in Mab's challenge. I also did Inktober at the same time, so two pieces a day. This year I felt like I had so much going on with going to NC, FAEA conference and also our CA trip so...I decided to just choose to do one.
True story.
